🔗 The PS5 is getting a price increase in the US tomorrow
PlayStation 5 gaming now starts at $499.
All PS5 models will be more expensive starting tomorrow.
The era when game consoles got cheaper as they got older is seemingly over. Nintendo raised the price of the eight year old Switch earlier this month, and now Sony are doing similar, increasing the cost of their five year old PlayStation 5.
The base PS5 console will now start at a new price point of $549, up $50 from the previous price change, and a notable increase from the original $499 launch price back in November of 2020.
Beyond the base unit, the digital edition will also be increasing, with a new $499 price tag. The PS5 Pro will now start at $749. No accessories are seeing an increase.
In a blog post announcing the change, Isabell Tomatis, Vice President of Global Marketing for Sony Interactive Entertainment said:
Similar to many global businesses, we continue to navigate a challenging economic environment. As a result, we’ve made the difficult decision to increase the recommended retail price for PlayStation 5 consoles in the U.S. starting on August 21.
So, I guess if you were planning on buying a PS5 any time soon, a trip to Best Buy may be on the cards tonight.
