I love the Game Boy. I have one. So why buy another? Nostalgia meet boring practicality.
As a kid I had an original Game Boy and used it to play various gems such as Kirby's Dream Land, pack-in king Tetris, Wario Land, and of course Pokemon Red. As such, my love for Nintendo's DMG endures to this very day.
Therefore you'd think the appeal of LEGOs roughly $60 upcoming Game Boy set would be strong to the point of an instant purchase — but I'm a little hesitant to part with my cash just yet.
Mainly it's because I already have an actual, real, working DMG Game Boy sat here behind me. You know, one I can still use to play those aforementioned classics.
I previously grabbed the amazing Mario 64 Question Block LEGO set and had a blast building that. But as with any LEGO set it's a case of what to do with it once you're done putting the bricks together. Sure, the fancier sets get displayed, taking pride of place on my office shelf — but when I've already got a tangible, functioning Game Boy right here this 421 piece set feels maybe a tad frivolous.

Sure, I'm getting my genuine nostalgia mixed up with practical adult thoughts, and honestly, more often than not the two aren't wholly compatible really.
Look, I'm probably going to end up caving and buying it anyway, because joy (and the joy of building) doesn't need justification. Maybe I'll just ask Santa.
Anyway, it's out in October, and it looks cool as hell.
