The Reachy Mini is an open-source robot for the 'builders of tomorrow'.
I've just stumbled across this 'Reachy Mini' robot whilst browsing Bluesky and it sure does look cute.
It's described as "an expressive, open-source robot designed for human-robot interaction", and it sports a rather delightful design — evoking the modern sleek look of say, Eve from Wall-E, but also rocking a touch of retro charm thanks to its two little antennas.
The site mentions how it's fully programmable in Python, with support for JavaScript and Scratch on the way. It's pitched as an open-source creative coding device designed to get developers, hackers, and robot enthusiasts tinkering. It's also presented as a possible device for kids who may want to play around with the robot as something of a weekend project curio. Oh, and the site makes mention of using it as a "gateway into robotics AI" — which may well alter your enthusiasm one way or another.
There's two versions of the device up for preorder, one is a 'lite' wired version, and the other features a fully autonomous system with onboard computing, wireless connectivity, and a battery. The Reachy Mini Lite is roughly $300, whereas the feature complete model will set you back $450 USD.
