🔗 Durobo Krono looks like a decent Boox Palma alternative
Durobo Krono, a smartphone-sized e-reader launching on Indiegogo, mirrors Boox Palma 2 specs with Android 13, 6.13-inch E Ink, and solid hardware.
The Durobo Krono is a new smartphone-shaped e-reader that is launching soon on Indiegogo.
The specs are decent: it uses Android 13, has a 6.13 inch E Ink Carta monochrome display, an octa-core processor, 6GB of RAM, 128GB of storage, and a 3950 mAh battery. It's also equipped with a mic (to use their Libby AI assistant I guess), stereo speakers, and has support for WiFi and Bluetooth.
And if these specs sound familiar to you: They are exactly the same than the Boox Palma 2. But unlike the Palma 2, the Krono has a dial, which you can long-press to trigger the voice-mode.
Our Spark feature serves as both your idea vault and thinking organizer. Long-press the Smart Dial to start recording, capturing fleeting insights, emotions, or observations. After recording, you can use Speech-to-Text to get a transcript, then apply the AI Summary to distill the key points and bring structure to your raw thoughts. For deeper thinking, switch to text mode—sketch out a plan or polish a paragraph with care and clarity.
I reviewed the Boox Palma a few months ago, and liked it a lot, but as it uses an older chip and Android 11, I slowly ended up using the Go Color 7 more.
This Krono seems like a solid alternative, but pricing hasn’t been revealed yet. Since the Palma 2 is $249.99, I’d expect it to be in a similar range.
